To say LSU struggled offensively against Alabama in the BCS Championship Game on Monday would be an understatement.

When LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson tossed the ball to Alabama linebacker C.J. Mosley with 7:48 remaining in the third quarter, he had a grand total of 45 passing yards and the Tigers had yet to get past midfield.

Jefferson's shovel pass intended for running back Spencer Ware was never seen by Ware, and Jefferson was forced to tackle Mosley himself on the return, noticeably frustrated.

Mosley sustained a leg injury on the play in the process.

Tweeted Dr. Mark Adickes, resident medical expert for FoxSports.com:

Alabama LB Mosely has femur fracture or knee dislocation after tackle by LSU QB Jefferson. Both injuries can lead to nerve and vessel damage

At the time, LSU was losing to the Crimson Tide, 12-0, and the game appeared to be getting away from them after four field goals by Alabama kicker Jeremy Shelley (the same Jeremy Shelley who missed a big field goal in their Nov. 5 matchup and was 2-of-9 for the season).

The game was naturally going to be a defensive slugfest given all the star power on the defensive side of the ball, but you still figured LSU, especially with a ground game that had become even better in the last few games, would score more than zero points with the game more than halfway over.
