According to multiple sources, the Oklahoma Sooners are set to rehire former Arizona head coach and OU co-defensive coordinator Mike Stoop sometime this week (via www.news9.com).
Stoops will serve as co-defensive coordinator as well as secondary coach, and he will call the defensive plays, according to the News9 report.
Sooner fans remember the stout defenses Stoops fielded during his first tenure in Norman, which spanned five years. During his time, OU went 55-11 and won the BCS title in 2000. Stoops' prominent pupils include Roy Williams, Teddy Lehman, Torrance Marshall and Tommie Harris, among many others.
It will be interesting to see how OU's defense changes under the seasoned eye of Stoops.
