5 MLB Stars Who Should Retire in 2012
In baseball, there’s probably nothing sadder than an over-the-hill veteran who just refuses to accept that his career is over.
Look at Babe Ruth, for example. His final season was with the Boston Braves in 1935, and his knees were so shot that he only played in 28 games. He finished that year with a .181 average to go with six home runs (down from 22 in 1934) and 12 RBI.
In the game today, the same can be said for Colorado Rockies backup first baseman/pinch hitter Jason Giambi. This man has never been the same since being exposed as a steroid user and frankly should have retired years ago. Still, he continues to play out the twilight of his career in the Mile High City with padded stats thanks to Coors Field.
Oh, and let’s not forget the ongoing Manny Ramirez circus.
Bleacher Report MLB columnist and lifelong baseball nut Josh Benjamin has seen many bad retirements in his time, and today, he takes a look at some players who should call it quits during or after the 2012 season.
