Michael Phelps: Star Swimmer Dumps Girlfriend Ahead of Summer Olympics

Michael Phelps will be one whole person lighter heading into the Summer Olympics in London.
The swimmer that made a name for himself by being pretty much the best swimmer in the history of humans staying afloat has separated from longtime girlfriend Nicole Johnson, a former Miss California, as reported by The New York Post.
You can stop the Google search. Knowing my audience, I have made sure to insert a photo of the lovely Miss Johnson in full Miss California mode.
We have to first give out condolences to these two people that are more attractive than we could ever hope to be; I am sure they will not be on the market for long. Well, definitely not Johnson.
For Phelps, we can only say "thank you." From an American that loves the Olympics, the breakup has to be seen as a reason to be selfishly optimistic. Sure, Phelps is suffering some heartache, but that leaves him less time to play snuggle bunnies with Johnson and more time to train.
Being single will help or hurt Michael Phelps?
Before you go lighting candles in vigil to the Olympic hero, please know that he is doing just fine. The report states that the couple actually broke up a few weeks ago.
Phelps has even been telling people that he is single and recently partied with a bunch of his friends at "Chelsea hot spot Avenue" this New Year's Eve.
Phelps is no doubt heading into the crunch of his training for the London games. It would be a tough time fro any couple as Phelps will spend most of his time in the pool and training, and for that we thank him.
His 16 overall Olympic medals is nice and all, but we need more. The selfish spectator in me needs him to delve less into the canoodling and more in the 200-meter individual medley.
Phelps is on the market, ladies. If you want a date, you better get real good at the backstroke, because he will be spending a lot of time swimming from here on out.
