High School Flagrant Foul Video: Watch Cole Vanderbilt's Absurd Cheap Shots
High school basketball has gotten a lot less national attention ever since the NBA implemented the rule where its players have to go to college for at least one year. But every now and then, a story will come up that garners national attention.
A perfect example is this video, which features a game between Highland High School and Connell High—and several no-calls for blatant cheap shots.
Cole Vanderbilt, No. 34 in white, has been identified as the man behind the madness. You can clearly see that he is attacking the opposing players with no regard for their safety. He is trying to prevent them from scoring, even if that means hurting them.
And to make matters worse, the officials just let it slide, with standard personal fouls being called. He doesn't get thrown out of the game nor does he have any flagrant or technical fouls assessed.
The video has gone viral, as you can tell, and these officials do deserve to be called out for allowing this to happen. And Vanderbilt should be suspended from the team, if he hasn't already been.
I mean, this is a joke without a good punchline.
Look at the fifth flagrant foul that is shown, and you can clearly see that he is out there for no other reason than to hurt someone. He just sticks out his arm as the opposing player drives to the hoop and clotheslines him.
NBA officials get a lot of criticism, and some of it is deserved, but at least they understand when to call a flagrant foul. These high school referees should be embarrassed that they let this go on for as long as they did.
