Stunning. Improbable. Freaking awesome.
That just begins to describe Tim Howard's goal for Everton against Bolton today. In the 63rd minute, Howard unleashed a long clearing kick downfield, and to everyone's surprise—namely Bolton goalkeeper Adam Bogdan—the ball took a most opportune bounce and made its way into the goal.
It was the only fortune Everton would have on the day, however, as Bolton rallied with goals by David Ngog in the 67th minute and Gary Cahill in the 78th.
Still, Howard totally stole the show from fellow American Landon Donovan, who was making his Everton debut.
In historical context, it is only the fourth goal ever scored by a Premier League goalie.
Let's turn to the other goalie for a moment. What excuse do you use if you're Bogdan after something like this happens?
"You'll never believe how much the wind carried it. It was crazy, man—I never had a chance."
"I lost it in the lights."
"My vision was blocked before the ball hit the ground, causing me to miscalculate the trajectory of the ball."
