The Maple Leafs have waived Colton Orr, according to thestar.com. With the earlier demotion of Philippe Dupuis, this move was on the horizon.

The Leafs cannot afford to have Orr on the roster, taking up a spot and cap room.

Orr has been a great player for Toronto. He was brought in to protect the young players on this team and allowed them to play their game, standing a little taller with him on the bench.

I remember one of Nazem Kadri's first games with the Leafs. It was in preseason, I believe, and Orr told him to go out and do what he does and not to worry about anything or anyone.

Orr has provided that and more as a Leafs player—he has been more than entertaining for the fans as well.

Brian Burke seems to be opening up spots and cap room for some move coming soon. You have to remember that Burke makes his trades well in advance of the NHL trade deadline.

I, for one, will always be a fan of Colton Orr and will remember him fondly.
