Tim McTiernanCorrespondent IDecember 30, 2011

On Friday night, Alexander Gustafsson officially made the leap from prospect to contender, as he was able to finish Vladimir Matyushenko by TKO in the first round.

What We'll Remember About This Fight

It was the first finish on the entire card!

But seriously, we'll remember that Gustafsson was able to knock out Matyushenko on the feet and took the leap from prospect to contender.

We'll also remember that post-fight hug that he gave Joe Rogan.

What We Learned About Alexander Gustafsson

He is the real deal. Gustafsson finished the veteran, Matyushenko, in the first round and did it almost as fast as Jon Jones.

Gustafsson also showed that he does have some serious knockout power and that he is a definite top 10 fighter.

What We Learned About Vladimir Matyushenko

It was a fast fight, so there wasn't all that much that could be learned. All that could possibly be taken away from this fight is that Matyushenko can't hang with the next generation of fighters.

What's Next For Gustafsson?

There's a couple options. First, the Rampage Jackson-Ryan Bader winner. Second, the Rashad Evans-Phil Davis loser. Third, Forrest Griffin.

Gustafsson has a lot of options.

What's Next For Matyushenko?

I fully expect to see Matyushenko retire from MMA competition. However, should he stick around, perhaps a fight with Tito Ortiz for old time's sake.
