Mississippi State's rushing attack and scoring defense battles the Wake Forest Demon Deacons' superior passing attack. (Almost 70 yards per game better than the Bulldogs.)
Bullldogs running back Vick Ballard will be looking to extend his already 1,000-plus yard rushing season at the expense of the Deacons D-line.
Meanwhile, quarterback Tanner Price is less than 200 yards away from a 3,000-yard season, and if the Deacons can hit their average, he'll get it. All I can say is, "good luck"—this Bulldog D is rough.
These teams are excellently poised to capitalize on the opposition's weaknesses. This could be a great game, or it could be over at halftime.
As the first postseason game featuring an SEC team, I'm expecting a LOT of crowd noise. Wake Forest fans will have a hard time keeping pace, but I'm sure they're up to the challenge.

Tanner Price came up with absolutely nothing on that set.
1:41 left in the game, and Miss State gets an "Illegal Shift" penalty in the Victory Formation. Nope, not a joke. The clock went from :16 to :06 on the new 10-second runoff rule.
I mention that because the Music City Bowl from last year is the reason that rule was written. :)
Maybe not the best-coached win in the Bulldogs' history, but in the end it IS a bowl win. :)
Congratulations to Vick Ballard and the Mississippi State Bulldogs for an entertaining game that took all four quarters to decide! Thank you all for reading the blog, it was a blast! You will see me again. :)
A Mississippi State fan has a "More Cowbell" sign. He needs to change that to "More Rushing."
Mississippi State is passing WAY too much in my humble opinion. They built their season on the rushing attack, and it's their biggest advantage over Wake.
I don't think a bowl game is the place to experiment.
In the meantime, Wake hits a field goal to bring the deficit to six points.
Mississippi State just got away with pass interference there. Wake does not convert on fourth down.
Score still 23-14 with 8:24 left in the game.
Guys have got to be educated on what is a fair catch signal and what isn't. Mississippi State just got a fair catch awarded for a crossing motion in front of the waist.
The rules state that a fair catch is signaled by a hand raised above the player's head, moving from side to side across the body.
There was a rule change when the rugby-style punting was instituted as legal. This rule states that any signal given to any member of the receiving team's players, signaling them to move out of the way of the ball means that the ball can't be advanced.
The reason I think they were following that rule is because he wasn't penalized for advancing the ball after calling for a fair catch. As they are two different rules, the enforcement is different.
Alabama's Javier Arenas was dinged by that rule in the BCS National Championship Game against Texas.
16-14 Mississippi State: end of 3rd Qtr
The stands sound like they are mostly Bulldog fans and their cowbells. The reason for that is that the stands are roughly 75 percent Mississippi State fans to 25 percent Wake fans.
They are thunderous!
Wake Forest opens the second half with a 4:00 touchdown drive to bring the score to 16-14 in favor of Mississippi State.
There is plenty of football to be played tonight, and the crowd isn't going anywhere. So far, the refs have been doing a beautiful job making the correct calls tonight.
Announcers are calling Mississippi State's clock management awful. Mississippi State got the ball well into field goal range, but called a pass play with six seconds left.
Wake Forest intercepted the Bulldogs in the end zone to close out the first half. Coach Mullen for the Bulldogs is absolutely set on addressing the turnover issue with his team.
"We're at a minus three on turnover ration right now, and you're not gonna win many games like that. We've got to clean it up in the second half." —Dan Mullen regarding the three first-half Bulldog turnovers
Mississippi State 16, Wake Forest 7 HALFTIME
Unbelievable! The entire crowd held its breath in shock as Mississippi State attempted a fake punt. It fell short, and Wake took over around midfield.
Mississippi State blocks a field goal and scores two plays later! This crowd is absolutely electrified, even with the missed PAT!
Bulldogs 13, Demon Deacons 7
Mississippi State's fans get what they came here for: a 60-yard Vick Ballard TD run on third down.
They are appreciative, and show it with a gargantuan level of noise.
Tied at 7.
Jim Grobe asked his Demon Deacons to play the hardest football of their lives today. The defense did just that by forcing a fumble. The offense, however, answered the defense's call with another three-and-out.
The Wake Forest defense stepped up and forced yet ANOTHER fumble! The offense answered THAT call with a TD!
Wake Forest 7, Mississippi State 0 with 4:24 left in the 1st quarter.
Bulldogs and Deacons trade three-and-outs as the teams seem to be knocking some of the rust off themselves offensively. The defenses look pretty sound so far, though.
Crowd is rallied and loud as the bands are playing in anticipation of kickoff! You can hear the cowbells ringing in the stands, and you can see a ton of gold flashing about in the stands for Wake Forest!
We are officially underway with a 52-yard kickoff return by Lewis for the Bulldogs!

The Music City Bowl is played at LP Field in downtown Nashville, TN (Music City). The field is natural grass, and is aligned NNW to SSE.
The 13 mph winds from the SW will be blowing almost straight across the field, making the kicking game more of a ridiculous trial than a game tonight. For that matter, it could affect the QB's as well.
If the wind is strong enough to affect the passing game, this could be a very long night for the Deacons.
On a bright note, it's 55 degrees and dry. Traction should not be an issue for either side.
Good morning, football fans! Less than nine hours remain before kickoff in Nashville, Tennessee!
It's the most interesting bowl game to me today, and I think will prove to be the most entertaining today. See you around 5:45 PM to start the blog for good. Have a blessed day, folks!
