WWE News: Plans for Layla El's Return, Alicia Fox Depushed?

Has anyone noticed in the past few weeks that WWE's struggling women's division is more adrift than usual?
Indeed, up-and-comer Alicia Fox pinned Divas champion Beth Phoenix on the Dec. 19 Raw in a non-title match in just under a minute, giving her a nasty shiner courtesy of a badly botched somersault dropkick in the process. She then proceeded to cut a victorious promo strongly hinting that she was now going after the Divas title.
So how did WWE follow up on this on Monday's Raw?
Eh, there was no pay-off because neither woman was mentioned at all. The only Divas-related stuff on the show was Kelly acting badly in a lame, poorly performed angle with the Big Show, and Eve acting badly in a lame, poorly performed angle with Zack Ryder. It looks like the Alicia/Beth storyline has been dropped entirely.
Unsurprisingly,in this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer notes that management has apparently already given up on the sloppy Fox and is instead planning to re-insert former LayCool member Layla El into the title picture as soon as she returns from surgery for a torn ACL (which should be very soon): "The plan is to push Layla in the championship picture just because they’ve worn out Phoenix against Kelly and Torres and everyone knows Fox isn’t the answer. Ultimately they’ll get to Natalya but not sure when that will be.
As Meltzer also noted, there have rumblings for ages about the possibility of third-generation wrestler Natalya turning on and feuding with her on-screen best friend, Phoenix.
On paper, it makes sense; they're both the most accomplished female wrestlers in the company and could easily churn out great matches.
Although knowing the fickle WWE booking team and how often plans change, it remains to be seen whether or not we will ever actually get to that rivalry.
