At 28 years old, right tackle Sebastian Vollmer is already starting to show signs of wear and tear.

A back injury kept him sidelined for much of 2011, and he had a "small procedure" on his back prior to the 2012 season.

Now, Karen Guregian of The Boston Herald reports that Vollmer had knee surgery "recently" (ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss later confirmed it took place on Wednesday).

The procedure has been described as routine, but it's fair to wonder whether Vollmer's checkered injury history will affect his value on the open market. There's no denying his talent at tackle, and the need for tackles is always at a premium, but how will teams feel about another note on the rap sheet of injuries?

At some point, the New York Jets are going to have to look for a quarterback of the future.

Is that player available in this year's draft? We'll surely look back and say "yes" in a few years, but hindsight is 20/20. Right now, though, I can tell you for 100 percent certain that there's a quarterback in this year's class who can come in and start for the Jets.

I could be wrong on who it is, but even though this year's crop of rookie passers isn't considered one of the best in recent history like last year's was, it's impossible to ignore the smooth transitions of so many rookie quarterbacks of late.

Jets fans seem to agree that the quarterback is available, but no one can agree on who.

It's understandable if you're a little behind on the draft research. The 2012 season ended just over two weeks ago, and we're already just days away from the 2013 NFL Scouting Combine.

My, how quickly the offseason moves along.

How about a quick way to get up to speed on the most important prospects to watch?

Glad you asked.

Richard Sherman versus Darrelle Revis is not a rivalry yet. How could it be? The two have never even

That hasn't stopped Sherman from taking to Twitter to proudly make a case that he is the best cornerback in the NFL.

The debate over who is better largely began as a result of a tweet Sherman sent out in late January, comparing Sherman's stats to Revis'.

Numbers don't lie, but they also don't tell the whole truth. So, who truly is the better cornerback?

Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis finally caved.

After more than a month of steady comments from Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman, both on the air and on Twitter, proclaiming himself to be the best cornerback in the game, Revis couldn't take it anymore and responded.

Never mind the use of "girl" as an insult, which is child's play to begin with. The normally quiet and humble Revis played Sherman's favorite game: the war of words.

It was unbecoming. That's just not Revis' style.

There have already been a lot of NFL observers making connections between the Buffalo Bills and Syracuse quarterback Ryan Nassib.

NFL Network draft scout Daniel Jeremiah is one such expert to draw a connection, citing reasons that might leave Bills fans a little less warm to the idea of drafting Nassib.

It's unclear whether Jeremiah is referencing Nassib as a quarterback (his tools, mechanics) or Nassib as a prospect (his stock, how teams feel about him, etc.)

CBS Sports' Dane Brugler described Nassib's arm strength as "good-enough" but was unimpressed with his performance at the 2013 Senior Bowl.

According to Lori Pilger of The Lincoln Journal Star, Patriots cornerback Alfonzo Dennard was found guilty of felony assault on a police officer and misdemeanor resisting arrest. Dennard faces a maximum sentence of six years.

Dennard may soon give new meaning to the term "lockdown cornerback." Or he could avoid jail completely.

Sentencing is scheduled for Apr. 11, but until then, Dennard's status for 2013 remains uncertain.

This adds another layer of fog to a cloudy situation around the Patriots' secondary. Safety Patrick Chung and cornerbacks Aqib Talib and Kyle Arrington are all scheduled to hit free agency on March 10.

The Miami Dolphins have a lot of money to spend this offseason and a lot of key free agents to take care of in the process.

Among those names is left tackle Jake Long, formerly a No. 1 overall draft pick. Long joined NFL Network's "Total Access" on Tuesday and reiterated that he would like to remain with the Dolphins, but said it's not entirely up to him.

I hate to break it to Long, but it was up to them before he said so, and if he wants to stay, he could be in for some bad news.

Long wants to get paid like one of the top left tackles in the NFL. Quite simply, Long has not played like one of the top tackles in the NFL over the past couple of years. There's a chance he could return to form, but the fact is his play has dipped when, in theory, he should be entering his prime at 28 years old.
